pretty good clip. right now the heavier showers towards west caln and towards downingtown. 75 now in northeast philadelphia. everybody is in the 70s with the exception of the poconos. everybody is steamy. you can see it in the air. occasional showers, some areas of light fog. then just mostly cloudy and muggy at 9:00 and at lunch time, 86 degrees and climbing. we'll go through it neighborhood by neighborhood when i come back. first katy zachry has traffic. >> there's a new accident into our system on the atlantic city expressway westbound on the ramp from the black horse pike, which is exit 2. the ramp is blocked. it's a single car accident. it hit a pole. some downed wires are involved. so the entrance ramp to the ac expressway westbound is blocked at the black horse pike. center city philadelphia, a lot of road closures to tell you

einstein hospital. she is listed in stable condition. police are looking for the shooter. happening today in atlantic city, revel casino hotel will begin its two-day closing process, this after showboat shut down yesterday. matt delucia is live in atlantic city. tell us what will happen there today. tracy, the hotel portion of revel will close at 11:00 a.m. today. the casino will close tomorrow morning. you can see the lights are on in the hotel rooms here. people are spending the last night here as this hotel is revel. right next door is the showboat. the lights are already out. the big difference between these two resorts is that showboat had been open for 27 years, revel was just open for two. look at some video here. we were here yesterday as workers at the showboat were putting up signs saying the casino was closed. a little more than 2,000 people worked here. some have been able to get new jobs at other casinos, but it's

been fairly tough as these are not the first two properties to shut down. atlantic club closed in january. then showboat yesterday. now revel and later this month trump plaza is scheduled to close. gaming revenue in atlantic city has dropped by almost half i've been walkitalking with patrons, blame the economy, and other blames other casinos in new york and pennsylvania. >> some people are finding other lines of work to go into. some people are going back to school. some people are retiring. yeah. >> i think i'm going back to school. >> you're going to go back to school? >> yes. yep. try to get into a different fiel

field. >> the revel casino employed more than 3,000 people. this casino filed for bankruptcy twice. it has not been able to find a buyer. in talking with people, they are still hopeful that somebody will buy this property soon enough. both of these properties, if you will, and try to turn atlantic city's economy around. we will stay on top of this. we're talking with people out here this morning. for now, live in atlantic city, i'm matt delucia, nbc 10 news. you mentioned the workers, the state is stepping in to help the workers. starting wednesday, the department of labor and work force develop will join the unite here union at the ac convention center for a week. they will connect workers with social services and help those concerned about making mortgage payments. count on nbc 10 for complete coverage of the casinos shutting down. we have an entire section dedicated to the situation on

our website, nbc10.com. new from overnight, a man is dead after a shooting in southwest philadelphia. this happened near 60th and almond. investigators tell us the victim was hit several times in the chest. police are looking for the shooter. if you're looking for a way to celebrate labor day, there will be a parade in philadelphia today. it starts at 11:00 this morning on south columbus boulevard and washington avenue and ends at the great plaza at penn's landing. then there's a festival until 2:00 this afternoon with activities for kids as well as adults as well as live entertainment. because today is a federal holiday, all philadelphia offices are closed today and city services will be reduced. there will be no trash pick up today in philadelphia. collections will be one day behind for the rest of the week. post offices and federal courts are also closed for the day. the trial of the woman accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a 5-year-old philadelphia girl is on hold

today because of the holiday. kristina reguster said she is innocent. she is expected to take the stand before the trial wraps up. this is surveillance video from the day the 5-year-old was abducted from her school. last week detectives testified how a talking bird gave him a break in the case. they said the victim told police she heard a loud bird at the house where she was held. detectives got a tip that someone owned a bird on the block where reguster lived. police are looking for the driver who struck four people outside a bar. it was no accident. it started yesterday inside red's bar and grill. officers believe the driver deliberately ran over the victims after they left the business. it's not clear what touched off the incident. in montgomery county, police are looking for the person who broke into a home and ended up hitting someone there with a hammer. this happened early yesterday on

edge hill road. the man climbed through a living room window and then the homeowner and his son confronted them. during the struggle, the son was struck by a hammer. the man got away in a waiting car behind the home. six people are safe after getting rescued by the coast guard at the jersey shore. it was about a mile off the coast of sea girt. a 20-foot boat started taking on water, they called for help and fired off a distress flair. iraqi forces with the help of the u.s. and other countries have broken a six-week siege of isis fighters in a shiite town. they fought off isis militants who took over a town in iraq called amerle. the attack came after the u.s. had strikes on the area two days earlier. coming up at 4:45, we'll hear about the u.s. lawmakers putting pressure on president obama to

starting today, riders at the 69th street transportation center will pay as you enter. up until now exiting riders had to pay at the front while other riders were getting on. the change is designed to get commuters in and out of septa vehicles pafaster and with less delays. pressure is mounting on president obama to do something about the growing isis threat in syria. he said air strikes are on the back burner but politicians on

weeks. they're calling for the resignation of the prime minister. police say the man known as the ak-47 bandit is back at it again. these are pictures from two years ago when he held up banks in california, idaho and washington state. now the fbi believes he may have struck in nebraska. investigators say the ak-47 bandit shot a police officer during a robbery two years ago. there's a $100,000 reward for information leading to his arrest. on long island, police are looking for the gunman who shot and killed a pregnant woman inside her car. investigators say they were responding to a 911 call when they found the woman outside her home. the baby also died. in rhode island, an armored truck overturned spilling bags of money on to the highway. the driver just lost control. state police got to the scene and made sure all of the cash made it into a second truck. the hershey train, known as

the chocolate train in cuba, has become a vital link between havana and a string of remote towns along cuba's eastern coast. the train is only two cars long and runs on electricity. for many it's the only form of transportation available on a regular basis. the line was established by milton hershey back in 1916. palestinian children celebrated the long-term cease-fire with israel over the weekend. a refugee camp in jordan hosted the event. it included music and dancing. it celebra the egyptian media cease-fire which is still holding took effect last tuesday. clouds are with us this morning. it's a steamy start. we're tracking scattered showers along with low clouds in the

westbound, the on-ramp from the black horse pike, exit 2. that on-ramp is closed. there was a vehicle into a pole, downed wires. an alternate around that, the garden state parkway ramp to the atlantic city expressway from washington avenue. that will get you around that mess. up to camden county, winslow township, flooding on the white horse pike eastbound approaching east fleming pike. the right lane is blocked there. looking at 95, the average speed headed into philadelphia, about 55 miles per hour. when you are in center city philadelphia, you will want to take notice that the ben franklin parkway inner and outer lanes are closed between 20th street and eakins oval. many students across our area head back to school this week. but students need to be careful. there's been a surge -- a sudden surge of dangerous driving near school buses in school zones. learn what is causing this trend. and the latest on joan

doctors have begun to bring joan rivers out of hermetical my induced coma. her daughter said on sunday we are keeping our fingers crossed. she says the family remains hopeful that the 81-year-old comedienne can recover. california is closer to a ban on plastic ban in grocery stores. according to the bill, shoppers who forget to bring their own bags would have to pay 10 cents for a paper or reusable bag in the store. experts say the ban helps protect the environment. >> hopefully a shift in the conversation away from -- producing products that we're using for a matter of minutes.

>> plastic bag manufacturers will get $2 million for new equipment. massachusetts and washington are considering bans on single use bags. police across country are keeping an eye on distracted drivers in school zones. transportation experts warn of a sudden serge in dangerous driving around schools and near school buses. many districts are mounting cameras on buses in an attempt to cut down distracted driving. >> in 2013, 2 million more drivers passed school bus stop arms than they did in 2011. there's no question that distracted driving plays a role. >> according to american traffic solutions, more than 100 kids are killed each year in crashes that happen getting too or from school. you're watching nbc 10 news.
